Life Matters

LIFE MATTERS SEMINARS & Interactive Workshops

We believe life matters. Your life. My life. And especially the lives of young people.

Who they are.

How they see themselves.

What they believe.

How they act.

How they interact.

We create a space for young people to discover their story; to carefully think about the choices they make and the impact they can have on their friends, school, community and world.

Our workshops stand at the intersection of the Christian story and empowering life values. Each seminar is contemporary in presentation, utilising dynamic speakers, video clips, storytelling, interactive activities and conversation.

How can you share with another that their life matters?

#YOUANDME - CHRISTMAS 2017 (Primary)

What does Christmas mean in a world full of dierent people, traditions, and beliefs? Is it possible the Christmas story can change the way we see the world - you, me, and everyone else?

#youandme is an exploration into diversity, inclusion, and practical examples of embracing people who are different to us. Through a creative retelling of the Christmas story, the Life Matters team describe the moment Jesus was born as a great example of how people from many different backgrounds were included in his story, a trend that continued all the way through Jesus’ life.

CHRISTMAS SEASON LAUNCHES November 13 2017 and runs until the end of term 4 2017.

for or against (Primary)

During For or Against, we aim to broaden the conversation around bullying to one that includes all people; reminding us that each person has a responsibility to show kindness, respect and inclusion to those around us. We ask the simple question: are you for or against others?

It is so important for students to understand bullying; what it is, the reasons why, and a response, therefore we address this topic and use the example of a bully being one who is firmly AGAINST others. We also give students ideas and tools on how to be kind people and great friends, this being a great example of being FOR others.

what's the story? (PRIMARY)

Empathy is a significant part of fostering positive relationships.

In this workshop, we focus on the use of story as a powerful tool for learning the art of empathy - when we understand the feelings attached to our own stories, we have a greater capacity to relate to the stories and feelings of others, allowing for greater connection and the ability to really ‘walk in someone else’s shoes’.

emotions (primary)

Understanding emotions and feelings is becoming an important strategy in ensuring positive mental health and resilience in children and young people.

We explore what emotions feel like, how our emotions can influence how we act and ultimately, how we can control our emotional responses to encourage positive behaviours. We encourage students to consider their personal strengths, and how these strengths can help them to control their emotions and become the best they can be.

image obsessed (HIGH)

Our culture has an obsession with body image; but is it possible to move away from the dominant beliefs of our culture and break the cycle of body image obsession?

Throughout this presentation we encourage young people that their worth rests on so much more than their image; their value to the world is so much bigger than their appearance. We offer a new story for young people to subscribe to; a new way of viewing ourselves and others that values acceptance, love and kindness.
