Position Summary

The Risk, Compliance and Safeguarding Coordinator is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of SMG’s frameworks for risk management, regulatory compliance, and child safeguarding.
A key focus of this role is the coordination of the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) Child Safeguarding Certification process, including coaching, policy review, and continuous improvement activities.
This role requires demonstrated expertise in project and risk management, policy development, WHS, and compliance practices. The successful candidate will contribute to building a safer organisation through evidence-based strategies and practical implementation.

Key Responsibilities
1. Risk and Compliance Frameworks
• 
  Develop, implement, and maintain SMG’s organisation-wide risk management and compliance frameworks.
•    Maintain and review risk registers; ensure timely reporting to Executive Leadership.
•    Monitor and respond to relevant legislative and regulatory changes.
2. Child Safeguarding Coordination
•    Lead implementation of the ACF Child Safeguarding Certification, including training and documentation.
•    Ensure organisational practices align with certification and child safety standards.
•    Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to embed a culture of safeguarding.
3. Policy and Compliance
• 
  Draft, review, and update policies and procedures in line with best practice and compliance requirements.
•    Ensure policies align with WHS, risk, and safeguarding frameworks.
•    Support policy implementation through coaching, clear communication, and accessible tools.
4. Risk Management and WHS
• 
  Conduct and lead regular risk assessments across operations.
•    Maintain a structured risk management calendar and processes.
•    Implement, monitor, and report on risk mitigation strategies to promote a safe and compliant workplace.
5. Project Management
•    Manage timelines, deliverables, and progress reporting for safeguarding and compliance projects.
•    Coordinate cross-team efforts to meet project milestones.
•    Apply project management methodologies and escalate issues as needed.




Key Selection Criteria

Essential

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, law, education, risk management, project management, or a related field.
Experience
•   
Demonstrated project management experience.
•   
Experience developing and implementing safeguarding and/or compliance frameworks or policies.
Knowledge and Skills
•    Sound knowledge of risk management, compliance, and WHS legislation.
    Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
•   
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•    Proven ability to deliver training and coach stakeholders across diverse teams.

Desirable
•    Experience in education, community services, or non-profit sectors.
•    Knowledge of the National Child Safe Standards.
•    Formal training in child protection or compliance.
