What is the Wellbeing Classroom?

Wellbeing is at the core of who we are at SMG. Our evidence-based Wellbeing Classroom embeds a Wellbeing Coach into ELC and primary schools to empower educators, students and parents with social and emotional tools using Kimochis®, feelings check-ins and family learning events.

SMG’s trauma informed Wellbeing Classroom framework was developed in partnership with researchers from the School of Education at The University of South Australia and Salisbury Communities for Children. Evaluations and reviews show positive changes in school readiness, student’s social relationships, attendance, emotional literacy and NAPLAN scores. Testimonies.

"The Wellbeing Classroom and our Wellbeing Classroom Worker have played an integral role in creating a positive wellbeing culture at our school for staff and students."

- Principal

"Any program to follow has to be valuable if you are getting all these positive results – like from students having positive identity – I don't think you can go wrong."

 - Teacher

"Another way the parents got to engage with the Wellbeing Classroom Program is through the (Kimochis) take home packs. This was where the students would take turns taking a character home and would document their experience in the take home pack book."

- Wellbeing Classroom Coach

"We had the opportunity to bring Huggtopus (kimochis social emotional tool) home after school today. My son was very happy and excited to show his new friend what he gets up to."

- Parent

"The feedback I got this year was great. All the classes are doing it. The kids are loving it. They are feeling really excited about it and they're feeling valued about what they are doing."

- Principal

"I loved seeing how intuitive the receptions were. To know when others might be feeling left out based on their body language. They could identify tone of voice, body posture, body position, eye contact (or lack of) and facial expressions that might indicate this."

-  Wellbeing Classroom Coach

"Me and my friend had a shy feeling when we started kindy, and we didn’t play together. But then we put our brave in front and we could play together."

- Student
