The Opportunity 

We are currently seeking a Payroll & Finance Support Officer to join our friendly and dedicated team. This is a 0.8 to 1.0 FTE permanent position, with flexibility based on operational needs. 

In this vital role, you’ll support the end-to-end payroll function, manage reimbursements, assist with invoicing and reconciliation, and contribute to key financial processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take ownership of their work while supporting a mission-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities 

Process fortnightly payroll for 220+ Pastoral Care Workers and 30 Support Centre staff 

Maintain employee records and data across payroll and finance systems 

Manage staff enquiries and reimbursements 

Liaise with Regional Managers to resolve timesheet queries 

Reconcile accounts and support month-end processes 

Prepare/send invoices and assist with financial reporting 

Identify process improvements and share learnings from professional development

What You’ll Bring 

Proven experience in payroll processing and financial administration 

Knowledge of PAYG, superannuation, GST, FBT and Fair Work compliance 

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems 

Strong attention to detail and time management 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

A commitment to SMG’s Christian values and vision 

Desirable: 

Experience in a not-for-profit or community organisation 

Certification in Bookkeeping, Accounting or Payroll Administration
